Next, the absorbed light energy is then converted into heat. Heat is able to damage the bulb and the bulge of the hair follicles and doesn’t harm any surrounding skin.

The heat disrupts the hair follicle’s ability to regrow hair. Depending on the situation and how many treatments you receive, this leads to a reduction of the hair growth.

Laser hair removal systems like the ones we have in both of our offices are designed to target the pigment or melanin in the hair while not harming any skin surrounding it. Certain wavelengths of light are absorbed predominately by the hair, allowing no damage to the skin.

Normally, it is suitable for many individuals, but there are some characteristics that may make you unable.

Having laser hair removal requires multiple visits to get the hair to stop growing. Although you will notice less and less grow back, the result is not instantaneous. At Healthy Solutions Medspa, we recommend 6 treatments, no matter the part of the body. If you do 6 treatments, 6-8 weeks apart, when summer comes along, you are smooth and hair free. Toss the razor!

Summer weather and laser hair are not good for each other. Our providers ask if you are tan, do not schedule your laser hair, and wait until the fall. Winter/fall clothing is also way easier to hide body hair compared to our summer bathing suits and tank tops, which makes it easier to hide between sessions.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal is done to get rid of unwanted hair, and to avoid shaving or waxing so often. The laser is meant to damage the hair follicle to make it stop growing so often. The laser itself releases light absorbed by melanin in our hair on the body. This is what damages the follicles that produce hair.

Our providers ask to reschedule your appointment if you are tan or burnt from the sun. Before your treatment, shave the day before or the day of treatment to remove hair above the skin.
